A Professor of Agriculture Economics, University of Calabar, Ajayi Omo-Ogun has said that political intrigues are likely to make or mar economic development in 2022.

The Professor said, “Political manipulation and intrigues will be the hallmark of 2022 with likely abandonment of governance. Decamping and re-decamping, accusations and counter-accusations, arrests and corruption charges, unlimited cash flow and much political magic will be the real game among the political gladiators with great negative impact on the economy.”

In a chat with The Guardian in Abuja, the don added that the battleground will also be in the 31 governorship races and of course, who becomes the next President.

He emphasised that the fuel subsidy controversy will be a very hard one with labour on the edge. Ajayi said these problems are expected to add up to make 2022 a challenging year for the country. He urged the government to ensure its fight against corruption is not compromised.
