Relishing the 2021 For The Love of Golf charity tourney
The Love Of Golf Charity tournament is not a title competition, but simply a charity drive to raise funds for the needy – helpless Paediatric Cancer patients.
These are a special class of humanity for which the tournament debuted in December 6, 2020. Yet, golfers will always be players, as the participants in the second edition of the event displayed their talents and skills on the course on the final day.
Former Ikeja Golf Club Captain, Ajibola, stole the show in the men’s category, while Lynda Obieze was the ladies champion.
Chichi Alamu also proved age is just a number, as she joined the winners’ list, just as preteen, Destiny Oyero, was present to herald his future ambition in golf.
The Lions Club, of which Dr. Ademola Falaiye is a prominent member, played a huge role in the success of the event, even as they also had a round on the course. But most importantly, this charity event lived up to expectations when it went beyond donating items for the Paediatric Cancer Ward of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) to adding destitutes from Orphanage home, Tripple G, also in Lagos, to the list.
Elated by the gesture, representatives of LUTH and Tripple G Orphanage, could not stop praising God and the donors for coming to their aid as they received the items. Also thrilled by the gesture, Mr. Ayo Aderiwale, an industrialist based in Lagos, said, ‘having people like Falaiye, who initiated For The Love Of Golf Charity Tournament, who remember their history and give back to the society that made them as giving to the needy is cultural in Africa.”
Aderiwale added, however, that while it is advisable to maintain the initial objectives of the pet project on paediatric cancer patients, it is also normal to extend the gesture to destitutes, as their predicament is by sheer fate.
He added, “Falaiye is a leader with rich cultural background, who takes positive advantage of it for the good of the society. He reaches out to those who definitely cannot pay back and it is a welcome development that everyone, who cares for the needy, should support.”
Busola Ladipo, the lady Vice Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, also applauded Falaiye, saying: “This second edition of For The Love Of Golf Charity Tournament is a huge success; it’s an improvement on the first edition, which goes to show that the organisers have done their home work properly for what the event stands for.”
