Ayomide, others shine at maiden Lagos Open Darts Championship Ogunowo Ayomide, Adeyemi Saheed and Bisiriyu Kudus have emerged winners in the women and men’s opens, junior girls and junior boys’ categories in the maiden Lagos Open Darts Championship held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. Upcoming star, Ogunnowo Ayomide defeated old horse, Bokini Kehinde 3-2 to win the women category of the two-day competition, while Yekini Riskat and Maria Okpara finished third and fourth respectively. The male class, Adeyemi Saheed dismissed Damola Oluwagbenga 3-1, while Famakin Pius and Olaore Olatunde settled for joint third position.  In the Junior Girls’ cadre, Ayomide, again, won by beaten Balogun Fathia 3-1 in an earlier game decided to win the prize for the girls’ class. However, Hameedah Arowofella and Obayomi Usrot ended the event in joint third position. Playing in the Junior Boys’ group, Bisiriyu Kudus finished first, beating Adu Finyinfoluwa to the second position, while Okafor Samuel and Jubril Yinusa were joint third.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku, gave kudos to the Lagos State Dart Association (LASDA) Chairman, Adegbenga Odofin, for a job well done. Also speaking, Technical Director of LASDA, Joachim Idada, said, “Darts as a sport is being moved out from the recreational centre to the sporting arena. Our hope is that very soon we will be able to hold a championship at the main hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium.    “The objective of the competition, from the technical perspective, is that we are hoping we can groom players with a possibility that if things work out well they can be exposed to international events.  “But for them to go international, they must hone their skills locally. We want to start what we call a ranking system that will help us develop them on a monthly basis by having top four in the men and women categories,” he said.
